Colombia is an appealing destination for some Swiss travelers, thanks to its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, it holds a significant place in global tourism. Among the 6.1 million Swiss who travel abroad annually, a portion may find Colombia's diverse attractions enticing.
Colombia's safety for tourists, including those from Switzerland, presents notable concerns. While Switzerland ranks 6th in safety among European countries, Colombia is ranked 143rd out of 160 countries in the Global Peace Index. The murder rate is significantly higher in Colombia, at 27.5 per 100,000 people compared to Switzerland's 0.5. Additionally, crime indices reveal that Colombia faces severe challenges with organized crime, including high scores in areas like mafia presence (9.5) and drug trade (cocaine trade at 9.5). While many tourists visit Colombia and enjoy their experiences, it's essential for travelers to remain vigilant, stay informed about safe areas, and take necessary precautions.
