Colombia is an appealing destination for some Armenian travelers, thanks to its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, it holds a significant place in global tourism. Given that approximately 300,000 Armenians travel abroad annually, a portion of them may find Colombia an intriguing option to explore.
Colombia poses certain safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Armenia. According to the Global Peace Index, Colombia ranks 143rd out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Armenia's ranking of 74th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Colombia is notably higher at 27.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Armenia's rate of 2.2. Additionally, female murder rates are 4.1 in Colombia versus 0.9 in Armenia. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights serious issues in Colombia, with high scores indicating worse conditions in various categories: mafia groups (9.5), crime networks (9.0), and drug trafficking (cocaine trade at 9.5). In contrast, Armenia scores much better across these indices, typically around 3.0 to 4.0. While many tourists visit Colombia safely, it is essential for travelers to stay informed about local conditions and exercise caution.
