Colombia is an appealing destination for visitors from Antigua and Barbuda due to its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, it ranks highly in global tourism and offers diverse attractions that may attract a segment of the Antiguan population.
Colombia presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from Antigua and Barbuda. According to the Global Peace Index, Colombia ranks 143rd out of 160 countries, indicating a lower level of safety. The murder rate in Colombia is 27.5 per 100,000 people, which is higher than Antigua and Barbuda's rate of 17.2. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Colombia struggles with various crime issues, scoring significantly worse than Antigua and Barbuda in categories such as mafia presence (9.5 vs. 3.0) and crime networks (9.0 vs. 3.0). While many tourists visit Colombia safely, it is advisable for travelers to stay informed about local conditions, exercise caution, and follow travel advisories.
