China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and diverse natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Thai travelers. With 10.4 million Thais traveling abroad annually, a portion of them is likely to consider visiting China, despite varying trends in tourist arrivals.
China is generally safe for tourists, but it ranks lower in safety compared to Thailand. According to the Global Peace Index, China is ranked 87th out of 160 countries, while Thailand is 73rd. The murder rate in China is significantly lower at 0.5 per 100,000 people compared to Thailand's 4.9. However, organized crime indices suggest that China has a higher level of organized crime activity, with scores indicating greater issues in areas like mafia presence and crime networks. In summary, while China has a lower murder rate, the overall safety perception may be affected by organized crime factors. Tourists should exercise standard precautions, as they would in any destination.
