China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and varied natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some of Myanmar's 54 million Bamar population. Despite fluctuations in tourist numbers, China remains a significant player in global tourism.
China is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Myanmar. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, while Myanmar is ranked 145th. The murder rate in China is significantly lower at 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Myanmar's 28.4. In terms of organized crime, Myanmar scores worse across various categories, such as mafia groups and state crime, where it has higher indices (9.0 and 8.5 respectively) compared to China's lower scores (7.0 and 7.0). Additionally, China has a much lower score for foreign crime (3.0) compared to Myanmar (7.5). Overall, while no destination is without risks, tourists from Myanmar may find China to be a safer option for travel.
