China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and varied natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Kenyans. While tourist arrivals may vary, China remains a significant player in global tourism, attracting a segment of Kenya's 54 million population.
China is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Kenya. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, while Kenya ranks 120th. The murder rate in China is significantly lower at 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Kenya's 5.3. In terms of organized crime, both countries have similar scores, but China tends to have lower levels of certain crimes. For example, the index for foreign crime is 3.0 in China compared to 6.5 in Kenya, and arms trafficking is rated 2.5 in China versus 7.5 in Kenya. Overall, while no destination is without risks, tourists from Kenya may find China to be a safer option for travel.
