China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and diverse natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Indian travelers. With 8.6 million Indians traveling abroad annually, a portion of this group may find China an attractive option despite the fluctuations in tourist arrivals.
China is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from India. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, which is safer than India, ranked 114th. The murder rate in China is significantly lower, at 0.5 per 100,000 people compared to India's 2.9. While both countries face challenges related to organized crime, China's indices in areas like arms trafficking (2.5) are better than India's (5.5). However, China does have higher indices for flora (8.5) and fauna crime (9.0). Overall, tourists from India can expect a relatively safe environment in China, but should always exercise standard travel precautions.
