China offers a blend of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and varied natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Cameroonians. While tourist arrivals and spending may vary, China remains a significant contender in the global tourism market, attracting a portion of Cameroon’s 28 million population.
China is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Cameroon. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, while Cameroon ranks 135th. The murder rate in China is significantly lower at 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Cameroon's 4.5. In terms of organized crime, while both countries face challenges, China's indices are often better. For example, the mafia group index is 7.0 for China compared to 4.0 for Cameroon, indicating a more significant presence of organized crime in Cameroon. Overall, while no destination is without risk, tourists from Cameroon may find China to be a safer option.
