China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and diverse natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Chilean travelers. With around 500,000 Chileans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find China an interesting place to visit, despite varying trends in tourist arrivals.
China is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Chile. However, according to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, which is lower than Chile's ranking of 62nd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in China is significantly lower than in Chile, with 0.5 murders per 100,000 people in China compared to 3.6 in Chile. However, organized crime indices indicate more challenges in China, with higher scores in areas such as mafia presence (China=7.0) and crime networks (China=7.5) compared to Chile (4.0 and 5.5, respectively). Overall, while tourists can visit China safely, they should remain aware of the differences in crime dynamics compared to Chile.
