China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and diverse natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Bruneians. While tourist arrivals and spending may vary, China remains a significant player in global tourism, attracting a portion of Brunei's population.
China is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Brunei, but there are some factors to consider. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries. Both Brunei and China have similar murder rates at 0.5 per 100,000 people. However, crime statistics indicate higher organized crime indices in China, with scores reflecting greater challenges in areas such as mafia presence, crime networks, and human trafficking. Brunei scores significantly better in organized crime indices, indicating a lower risk in these areas. While tourists can enjoy their visit to China, they should remain aware of their surroundings and exercise caution, particularly in urban areas. Overall, with proper precautions, tourists from Brunei can have a safe experience in China.
