Cameroon presents a compelling destination for Austrian travelers due to its rich cultural heritage and diverse natural resources. As a key player in the tourism sector, it significantly contributes to the country's economic development. With 7.5 million Austrians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Cameroon appealing for their travel experiences.
Cameroon presents some safety concerns for tourists, including those from Austria. While Austria ranks 3rd in safety according to the Global Peace Index, Cameroon is significantly lower at 135th out of 160 countries. The murder rate in Cameroon is notably higher, at 4.5 per 100,000 people compared to Austria's 0.7. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that Cameroon struggles with organized crime, with higher scores in areas such as state crime (8.0) and human trafficking (6.5) compared to Austria's much lower scores (4.0 and 4.5, respectively). While travel is possible, tourists should exercise caution, stay informed about local conditions, and consider safety measures when visiting Cameroon.
