Congo offers a unique appeal for Tunisian travelers, featuring rich landscapes and a largely uncharted environment. Although its tourism sector is still developing, it could attract a segment of the 700,000 Tunisians who travel abroad annually.
Congo is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Tunisia. According to the Global Peace Index, Congo ranks 108th out of 160 countries, while Tunisia ranks 72nd. Although specific murder rates for Congo are not available, Tunisia has a murder rate of 4.8 per 100,000 people and a female murder rate of 1.9. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Tunisia has lower scores across various crime categories, suggesting a more stable environment. For instance, mafia groups score 1.0 in Tunisia compared to 3.0 in Congo, and state crime is rated at 5.5 in Tunisia versus 8.0 in Congo. Human trafficking and smuggling also show higher risks in Congo, with scores of 6.5 and 4.5, respectively, compared to Tunisia's scores of 4.0. Overall, tourists from Tunisia should exercise caution when considering travel to Congo, as the safety indicators suggest a higher risk of crime and violence.
