Canada offers a rich blend of cultural charm and natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for some Maltese travelers. Although there has been a recent decline in tourist arrivals, millions of international visitors still choose Canada annually. With around 200,000 Maltese traveling abroad each year, a portion may find Canada an attractive option to explore.
Canada is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Malta. According to the Global Peace Index, Canada ranks 11th out of 160 countries, indicating a high level of safety. In comparison, Malta ranks 26th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. When looking at crime statistics, Malta has a lower murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Canada's rate of 2.1. However, Canada has a better score in terms of state crime (2.0) compared to Malta (7.5). In terms of organized crime, Malta scores better on mafia presence (1.5 vs. Canada’s 5.0) and crime networks (7.0 vs. 4.0), but Canada performs better in areas like human trafficking (3.5 vs. 5.0) and arms trafficking (2.5 for both). Overall, while there are differences in crime rates and types, Canada is a safe destination for tourists.
