Canada offers a blend of cultural charm and natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for international travelers. Although there has been a recent drop in tourist arrivals, it still attracts millions annually. With around 300,000 Sri Lankans traveling abroad each year, a portion may find Canada to be an intriguing option for their travels.
Canada is considered a very safe destination for tourists, including those from Sri Lanka. According to the Global Peace Index, Canada ranks 11th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Sri Lanka, which ranks 99th. In terms of crime statistics, Canada has a lower murder rate of 2.1 per 100,000 people compared to Sri Lanka's 3.5. Additionally, the rates of female murders are also lower in Canada (1.0) than in Sri Lanka (2.2). The Global Organized Crime Index further highlights that while both countries face challenges, Canada generally has lower indices for various forms of crime, particularly state crime (Canada: 2.0 vs. Sri Lanka: 7.0) and arms trafficking (Canada: 2.5 vs. Sri Lanka: 5.0). Overall, Canada offers a safer environment for tourists compared to Sri Lanka.
