With 5 million Canadians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Belize an intriguing option for their travels.
Belize has a higher crime rate compared to Canada, particularly in terms of violent crime. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the murder rate in Belize is 31.2 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than Canada's rate of 2.1. Additionally, Belize has higher indices for organized crime, with scores indicating more challenges in areas such as human trafficking and drug trade. While many tourists visit Belize without incident, it is advisable for travelers from Canada to exercise caution, stay informed about local conditions, and take standard safety precautions while traveling.
