Belize is an appealing destination for some Bahamians, offering a unique blend of nature and culture. Its tropical setting and vibrant tourism scene make it an attractive choice, despite the relatively small number of foreign visitors it receives each year.
Belize has a higher murder rate than the Bahamas, with rates of 31.2 per 100,000 people compared to 29.2 in the Bahamas. Additionally, Belize has higher rates of female murders (5.5 vs. 2.8). In terms of organized crime, Belize scores lower on several indices compared to the Bahamas, indicating a more significant presence of organized crime groups and networks. For example, Belize has a mafia group index of 6.5 compared to the Bahamas' 3.5, and its overall crime network index is 3.5, while the Bahamas is at 2.0. While Belize offers beautiful attractions and experiences for tourists, visitors should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard safety precautions, as crime rates are a consideration.
