Belize is an appealing destination for some Belgian travelers, offering a unique blend of nature and culture. While it attracts a modest number of foreign visitors annually, its tropical allure and diverse tourism options could entice a portion of the 8.6 million Belgians who travel abroad each year.
Belize presents a mixed safety profile for tourists, particularly those coming from Belgium. While Belgium ranks 16th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, Belize has a significantly higher murder rate of 31.2. Additionally, female murder rates are also concerning, with Belize at 5.5 compared to Belgium's 0.2. In terms of organized crime, Belize scores worse than Belgium in several categories, including mafia groups (6.5 vs. 3.0) and state crime (4.5 vs. 2.0). However, both countries have similar scores for human trafficking and smuggling. Overall, while many tourists visit Belize without incident, travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about local safety conditions.
