Belarus offers a unique blend of cultural and natural attractions that could appeal to some Dutch travelers. With 22.1 million Dutch citizens traveling abroad annually, there is potential for a segment of this population to be drawn to Belarus as a destination.
Belarus has a safety ranking that is significantly lower than that of the Netherlands. It is ranked 38th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, compared to the Netherlands, which ranks 9th. Additionally, the Global Peace Index places Belarus 110th out of 160 countries, whereas the Netherlands ranks 18th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Belarus is 2.4 per 100,000 people, compared to 0.7 in the Netherlands. Female murder rates are also higher in Belarus at 1.7, compared to 0.4 in the Netherlands. Regarding organized crime, Belarus has a higher index for state crime (9.0) compared to the Netherlands (2.5), indicating a greater prevalence of state-related criminal activities. Other crime indices also show Belarus scoring worse in various categories, such as human trafficking (7.0 in Belarus vs. 5.5 in the Netherlands) and arms trafficking (6.5 in Belarus vs. 5.0 in the Netherlands). Overall, while Belarus may offer unique experiences, tourists from the Netherlands should be aware of the higher safety risks and crime rates.
