Belarus offers a blend of cultural and natural attractions that could appeal to some Bulgarian travelers. With 4.1 million Bulgarians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Belarus an intriguing destination worth exploring.
Belarus presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly those coming from Bulgaria. In terms of safety while walking alone at night, Belarus ranks 38th out of 40 countries, significantly lower than Bulgaria's 21st position. The Global Peace Index also reflects this disparity, with Belarus at 110th out of 160 countries compared to Bulgaria's 26th rank. Regarding crime statistics, the murder rate in Belarus is 2.4 per 100,000 people, higher than Bulgaria's rate of 1.3. Female murder rates also show a similar trend, with Belarus at 1.7 and Bulgaria at 0.8. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while both countries face organized crime, Belarus has a higher score in state crime (9.0) compared to Bulgaria (7.5), suggesting more significant issues in this area. Overall, while tourists can visit Belarus, they should remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, as safety levels are not as high as in Bulgaria.
