Belarus offers a unique blend of cultural and natural attractions that could appeal to some Belgian travelers. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Belarus an intriguing destination worth exploring.
Belarus presents a mixed safety profile for tourists from Belgium. It ranks 38th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, similar to Belgium, which is 39th. However, the Global Peace Index places Belarus at 110th out of 160 countries, compared to Belgium's 16th position, indicating a lower level of overall safety. In terms of crime statistics, Belarus has a higher murder rate of 2.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Belgium's 1.1. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Belarus (1.7) than in Belgium (0.2). According to the Global Organized Crime Index, Belarus scores lower in state crime (9.0) compared to Belgium (2.0), indicating a higher prevalence of state-related crime in Belarus. Other crime categories show Belarus generally ranking worse than Belgium, particularly in state crime and human trafficking. Overall, while Belarus may be comparable to Belgium in certain aspects of safety, it has higher crime rates and lower rankings in global safety indices, suggesting that tourists should exercise caution when visiting.
