Botswana offers a unique appeal for tourists, featuring vast savannas and diverse wildlife. Its moderate visitor numbers indicate a charm that attracts discerning travelers looking for less conventional experiences. This makes it an intriguing option for a segment of Mozambique's 33 million population.
Botswana is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Mozambique. According to the Global Peace Index, Botswana ranks 49th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety compared to Mozambique, which ranks 106th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Botswana is higher at 10.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Mozambique's 3.5. However, Botswana has a lower incidence of organized crime, with a mafia group index of 1.0 compared to Mozambique's 3.5, and lower scores in other crime categories as well. Overall, while there are some safety concerns in Botswana, it is statistically safer than Mozambique for tourists.
