Brazil offers a rich cultural experience and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Malawians. With its diverse attractions, including famous beaches and the Amazon rainforest, it could attract a segment of Malawi's 20 million population.
Brazil presents certain safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Malawi. According to the Global Peace Index, Brazil ranks 129th out of 160 countries, which is significantly lower than Malawi's ranking of 77th. In terms of crime statistics, Brazil has a much higher murder rate at 22.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Malawi's 1.8. Additionally, Brazil faces challenges with organized crime, reflected in various indices: for instance, Brazil scores 7.5 for mafia groups and 8.5 for state crime, while Malawi scores much lower in these categories (2.0 and 4.0, respectively). Tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions when traveling to Brazil, as the crime rates and safety indices indicate a higher risk compared to Malawi.
