Brazil offers a rich array of vibrant cultures and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Mauritian travelers. With a robust tourism infrastructure that includes famous beaches and the Amazon rainforest, it could attract a segment of the 100,000 Mauritians who travel abroad annually.
Brazil's safety for tourists, especially those coming from Mauritius, presents some concerns. According to the Global Peace Index, Brazil ranks 129th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Mauritius, which ranks 22nd. In terms of crime statistics, Brazil has a much higher murder rate at 22.5 per 100,000 people compared to Mauritius's 2.6. For female murders, the rates are 3.5 in Brazil versus 1.8 in Mauritius. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights Brazil's challenges, with higher indices indicating more severe crime issues: mafia groups (7.5 in Brazil vs. 2.0 in Mauritius), crime networks (6.5 vs. 6.0), and state crime (8.5 vs. 6.0). Overall, while Brazil offers rich cultural experiences, tourists from Mauritius should be aware of the higher crime rates and take necessary precautions.
