Brazil offers a rich blend of vibrant cultures and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing option for tourists. With its well-developed tourism infrastructure, the country boasts a variety of attractions, including famous beaches and the Amazon rainforest. Among the 200,000 Maltese who travel abroad annually, a segment may find Brazil an intriguing destination.
Brazil presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from Malta. While Malta enjoys a low murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people, Brazil's rate is significantly higher at 22.5. Additionally, Brazil ranks 129th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a higher level of violence and crime compared to Malta, which ranks much higher in safety. Crime statistics further highlight the disparity, with Brazil facing challenges such as organized crime (indexed at 7.5 for mafia groups and 6.5 for crime networks) and a high incidence of violent crimes. Tourists should exercise caution, stay informed about their surroundings, and follow travel advisories when visiting Brazil.
