Brazil offers a rich cultural experience and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Mauritanians. With its diverse attractions, including famous beaches and the Amazon rainforest, it could attract a segment of Mauritania's 5 million population.
Brazil has a higher safety risk for tourists compared to Mauritania. According to the Global Peace Index, Brazil ranks 129th out of 160 countries, while Mauritania is ranked 93rd. The murder rate in Brazil is significantly higher at 22.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Mauritania's 1.0. Crime statistics from the Global Organized Crime Index also indicate that Brazil faces more severe challenges, with higher scores in areas such as mafia presence (Brazil 7.5 vs. Mauritania 2.5) and state crime (Brazil 8.5 vs. Mauritania 7.0). While many tourists visit Brazil without incident, it is advisable for travelers from Mauritania to remain vigilant and informed about local conditions and safety precautions.
