Brazil offers a captivating mix of vibrant cultures and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing option for Irish travelers. With a well-developed tourism infrastructure that includes famous beaches and the Amazon rainforest, it could attract a segment of the 2.3 million Irish who travel abroad annually.
Brazil presents certain safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Ireland. While Ireland ranks 2nd in safety according to the Global Peace Index, Brazil is significantly lower at 129th out of 160 countries. Crime statistics further highlight the disparity: Ireland has a murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people, while Brazil's rate is much higher at 22.5. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Ireland at 0.3 and Brazil at 3.5. In terms of organized crime, Brazil scores worse in various categories, including mafia presence (7.5 vs. Ireland's 6.0) and state crime (8.5 vs. Ireland's 3.0). Overall, while many tourists visit Brazil safely, it is advisable for travelers from Ireland to exercise caution and stay informed about their surroundings.
