Brazil offers a rich cultural experience and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for Belgian travelers. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling internationally each year, a portion may find Brazil's diverse attractions, from its famous beaches to the Amazon rainforest, particularly enticing.
Brazil presents certain safety challenges for tourists, especially when compared to Belgium. According to the Global Peace Index, Brazil ranks 129th out of 160 countries, indicating a lower level of safety compared to Belgium, which ranks 16th. Crime statistics highlight significant differences: Belgium has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, while Brazil's rate is substantially higher at 22.5. Additionally, the rates of female murders are 0.2 in Belgium compared to 3.5 in Brazil. In terms of organized crime, Belgium generally scores better across various categories, such as mafia groups (3.0 in Belgium vs. 7.5 in Brazil) and state crime (2.0 in Belgium vs. 8.5 in Brazil). While many tourists visit Brazil safely, it is advisable for travelers from Belgium to remain vigilant, stay informed about local conditions, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
