Benin offers a unique cultural experience and an improving tourism infrastructure, making it an appealing destination for some Singaporean travelers. With around 800,000 Singaporeans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Benin's attractions worth exploring, especially given the recent increase in international tourist arrivals.
Benin's safety for tourists, including those from Singapore, is relatively lower compared to Singapore. According to the Global Peace Index, Benin ranks 112th out of 160 countries, while Singapore ranks 5th. The murder rate in Benin is 1.1 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than Singapore's rate of 0.1. In terms of organized crime, Benin has higher indices across various categories, indicating more significant issues with crime networks and state crime. For example, Benin scores 6.0 for crime networks and state crime, compared to Singapore's much lower scores of 3.5 and 1.5, respectively. Overall, while Benin has its attractions, tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about local safety conditions.
