Benin offers a compelling destination for some Nigerians, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and improving tourism infrastructure. The country has seen a notable increase in international tourist arrivals, indicating its growing appeal.
Benin is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Nigeria. According to the Global Peace Index, Benin ranks 112th out of 160 countries, while Nigeria ranks 144th. The murder rate in Benin is significantly lower at 1.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Nigeria's rate of 22.0. In terms of organized crime, Benin has lower indices across various categories compared to Nigeria. For example, the mafia group index is 1.0 for Benin versus 5.5 for Nigeria, and the crime networks index is 6.0 for Benin compared to 9.0 for Nigeria.
