Burundi offers a unique experience with its natural beauty and cultural richness, making it an appealing option for some Turkish travelers. Although tourism currently plays a minor role in the country's exports, there is potential for growth due to its distinctive cultural assets. With 2.7 million Turks traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Burundi to be an intriguing destination.
Burundi presents a mixed safety profile for tourists from Türkiye. While the Global Peace Index ranks Burundi 127th out of 160 countries, it is considered slightly safer than Türkiye, which is ranked 137th. However, Burundi has a higher murder rate at 6.1 per 100,000 people compared to Türkiye's 2.5. In terms of organized crime, Burundi scores better in mafia presence (1.0) and crime networks (4.5) than Türkiye (8.0 and 7.5, respectively). However, both countries have similar scores for state crime, indicating potential concerns in governance. Overall, while there are some safety concerns in Burundi, especially regarding violent crime, the organized crime landscape may be less severe than in Türkiye. Tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions when considering travel to Burundi.
