Frequently asked questions
How attractive is Burundi as a destination for visitors from Canada?
Burundi offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, making it an intriguing option for some Canadian travelers. Although its tourism sector is still developing and contributes modestly to the economy, the country's distinctive cultural assets and strategic location in East Africa could attract a portion of the 5 million Canadians who travel abroad annually.
Please answer the following question: How safe is Burundi for tourists coming from Canada?
Burundi presents certain safety concerns for tourists from Canada. According to the Global Peace Index, Burundi ranks 127th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Canada's 11th position. The murder rate in Burundi is 6.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Canada's 2.1. Additionally, various crime indices indicate higher risks in Burundi, particularly in areas such as state crime (9.0) and human trafficking (8.5), while Canada scores much lower in these categories (2.0 and 3.5, respectively). Overall, while tourists can visit Burundi, they should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions and safety measures.
