Bulgaria offers a rich blend of historical and natural attractions, making it an appealing destination for some Turkish visitors. With over seven million foreign tourists annually, it stands out as a notable European location. Among the 2.7 million Turks who travel abroad each year, a portion may find Bulgaria an attractive option.
Bulgaria is generally considered safe for tourists coming from Türkiye. In terms of safety rankings, Bulgaria is positioned 21st out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is better than Türkiye's ranking of 31st. The Global Peace Index also reflects this, with Bulgaria ranked 26th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Türkiye, which ranks 137th. Murder rates further illustrate this safety comparison, with Bulgaria's rate at 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to Türkiye's 2.5. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Bulgaria has lower scores in various crime categories, suggesting a lesser presence of organized crime compared to Türkiye. Overall, while no destination is without risks, Bulgaria presents a safer environment for tourists relative to Türkiye.
