Bulgaria offers a compelling mix of historical and natural attractions, combining ancient culture with modern hospitality. This unique appeal has established it as a notable European destination, attracting over seven million foreign visitors each year. While recent visitor numbers have fluctuated, Bulgaria could be an appealing option for a segment of Qatar's population of three million.
Bulgaria is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Qatar. It ranks 21st among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. According to the Global Peace Index, Bulgaria is ranked 26th out of 160 countries, which is comparable to Qatar's ranking of 29th. In terms of crime statistics, Bulgaria has a murder rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people, compared to Qatar's very low rate of 0.3. While Bulgaria has higher crime rates in some categories, it is important to note that both countries have relatively low overall crime rates. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Bulgaria has some challenges, particularly with organized crime, but it still remains a safe destination for tourists. Overall, visitors from Qatar can expect a relatively safe experience in Bulgaria.
