Bulgaria offers a rich blend of historical and natural attractions, showcasing both ancient culture and modern hospitality. It attracts over seven million foreign visitors each year, highlighting its significance as a European destination. This makes it potentially appealing to a segment of Iraq's 44 million population.
Bulgaria is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Iraq. It ranks 21st out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. According to the Global Peace Index, Bulgaria is ranked 26th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Iraq, which ranks 148th. In terms of crime statistics, Bulgaria has a much lower murder rate at 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to Iraq's 10.1. Additionally, various organized crime indices show that Bulgaria scores better than Iraq in several categories, including mafia presence and arms trafficking. Overall, while no destination is without risk, Bulgaria presents a safer environment for tourists compared to Iraq.
