Burkina Faso offers a unique appeal for adventurous Nigerian travelers, thanks to its diverse cultural heritage and intrinsic attractions. While it may not attract large numbers of tourists globally, it presents an interesting option for a segment of Nigeria's 219 million population.
Burkina Faso's safety for tourists from Nigeria is comparable to Nigeria itself. According to the Global Peace Index, Burkina Faso ranks 146th out of 160 countries, while Nigeria ranks 144th. In terms of crime rates, Burkina Faso has a significantly lower murder rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to Nigeria's 22.0. The Global Organized Crime Index also indicates that while both countries face challenges, Burkina Faso generally has lower scores in various crime categories. For instance, mafia group activity is rated 3.5 in Burkina Faso versus 5.5 in Nigeria. However, both countries have similar scores in arms trafficking (8.0) and resource crime (8.5). Overall, while there are risks associated with travel to either country, Burkina Faso may present a slightly safer environment in terms of violent crime. Tourists should remain vigilant and stay informed about the current situation.
