Burkina Faso offers a unique appeal for adventurous travelers, showcasing a diverse cultural heritage and intrinsic attractions. While it may not attract large numbers of tourists globally, it could be an intriguing destination for a segment of Kenya's 54 million residents.
Burkina Faso currently faces significant safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Kenya. According to the Global Peace Index, Burkina Faso ranks 146th out of 160 countries, while Kenya ranks higher at 120th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Burkina Faso is lower at 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to Kenya's 5.3. However, various organized crime indices indicate that Kenya generally has higher levels of organized crime and state crime than Burkina Faso, with indices for mafia groups and crime networks showing Kenya at 7.0 and 7.5 respectively, while Burkina Faso scores lower at 3.5 and 6.5. Overall, while Burkina Faso has a lower murder rate, the overall safety environment is less favorable compared to Kenya. Tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about the current situation before traveling to Burkina Faso.
