Burkina Faso offers a unique appeal for adventurous travelers, particularly those from China, despite its relatively low global tourist arrival numbers. With a rich cultural heritage and diverse attractions, it could attract a segment of the 20.3 million Chinese tourists who travel abroad annually.
Burkina Faso presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from China. According to the Global Peace Index, Burkina Faso is ranked 146th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than China's ranking of 87th. The murder rate in Burkina Faso is 1.3 per 100,000 people, compared to China's rate of 0.5. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while Burkina Faso has some challenges with organized crime, it is generally less favorable than China in several areas. For example, Burkina Faso scores 8.0 in arms trafficking and 8.5 in resource crime, while China scores much lower in these categories. Overall, while travel is possible, tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions when visiting Burkina Faso.
