Belgium is an appealing destination for many visitors from Luxembourg due to its rich cultural heritage and vibrant cities like Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp. With 1.8 million Luxembourgers traveling abroad annually, a notable portion may find Belgium an attractive option for their travels.
Belgium is generally safe for tourists, but it has some safety concerns compared to Luxembourg. According to safety rankings, Belgium is 39th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, whereas Luxembourg ranks 27th. However, Belgium holds a better position in the Global Peace Index, being 16th among 160 countries, with no available data for Luxembourg. In terms of crime statistics, Belgium has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Luxembourg's low rate of 0.6. The Global Organized Crime Index also shows that Luxembourg generally fares better, with lower indices across various crime categories, including mafia presence and drug trade. While tourists can visit Belgium safely, they should remain aware of their surroundings, especially at night.
