Belgium is an appealing destination for some visitors from Dominica due to its rich cultural heritage and modern attractions. The country's historical significance, stunning architecture, and the charm of cities like Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp contribute to its popularity, attracting millions of tourists annually.
Belgium's safety for tourists, including those from Dominica, presents a mixed picture. While Belgium ranks 39th out of 40 European countries for safety when walking alone at night, it holds a more favorable position of 16th among 160 countries in the Global Peace Index. In terms of crime statistics, Belgium has a significantly lower murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Dominica's 13.8. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in Belgium (0.2) versus Dominica (5.5). Regarding organized crime, Belgium has higher indices in various categories, such as crime networks (4.5) and foreign crime (5.0), compared to Dominica's lower scores. However, Dominica scores better in terms of mafia presence and certain types of trafficking. Overall, while Belgium has some safety concerns, particularly regarding organized crime, its lower murder rates suggest it is generally safer for tourists compared to Dominica. Travelers should remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings, as they would in any destination.
