Belgium is an appealing destination for some visitors from Cyprus due to its rich cultural heritage and modern attractions. With millions of tourists each year, its historical significance and stunning cities like Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp contribute to its allure. Among the 500,000 Cypriots who travel abroad annually, a portion may find Belgium an interesting choice for their travels.
Belgium's safety for tourists from Cyprus can be viewed from different perspectives. In terms of walking alone at night, Belgium ranks 39th out of 40 countries, making it less safe compared to Cyprus, which ranks 11th. However, according to the Global Peace Index, Belgium is considered one of the safest countries globally, ranking 16th out of 160, while Cyprus is ranked 86th. When examining murder rates, Belgium has a slightly lower rate at 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Cyprus's 1.3. In terms of organized crime, both countries have relatively low indices, but Belgium generally has better scores in state crime and human trafficking. Overall, while Belgium has certain safety concerns, particularly at night, it is still considered a safe destination for tourists, especially when compared to global standards. Travelers should remain aware of their surroundings, as they would in any country.
