Belgium is an appealing destination for some of the approximately 3 million people in Botswana, thanks to its rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and vibrant cities like Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp. The country's blend of history and modern attractions makes it a noteworthy option for visitors.
Belgium is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Botswana. While it ranks 39th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, it holds a much better position globally, being ranked 16th out of 160 countries in the Global Peace Index. In terms of crime statistics, Belgium has a significantly lower murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Botswana's 10.5. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Belgium at 0.2 and Botswana at 7.6. Regarding organized crime, Belgium has a higher index score than Botswana in some areas, indicating a slightly more organized crime presence, but overall, it remains a safer destination. Tourists should exercise standard precautions, but Belgium is safer than Botswana in many respects.
