Barbados is an appealing destination for some Guyanese travelers, thanks to its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and developing tourism facilities. Although recent foreign visitor numbers have decreased, the island remains attractive due to high tourist spending per arrival, indicating valuable experiences. A segment of Guyana's population of approximately 1 million may find Barbados particularly enticing.
Barbados is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Guyana. While Guyana has a higher murder rate of 16.3 per 100,000 people compared to Barbados's rate of 11.4, the overall crime environment in Barbados is more favorable. According to the Global Organized Crime Index, Barbados scores better in various crime categories, such as human trafficking and resource crime, indicating a lower prevalence of organized crime. For instance, Barbados scores 2.0 for resource crime compared to Guyana's 8.5. While Barbados does have some crime, particularly in certain areas, it remains a popular tourist destination known for its hospitality and vibrant culture. Visitors should exercise standard travel precautions, such as being aware of their surroundings and securing their belongings.
