Barbados is an appealing destination for Belgian travelers, featuring beautiful beaches, a vibrant culture, and a growing tourism infrastructure. Despite a recent decline in foreign visitors, the island continues to attract interest due to its high-quality experiences and strong tourist spending. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Barbados an attractive option for their travels.
Barbados presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Belgium. While Belgium ranks 16th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, Barbados has a significantly higher murder rate of 11.4. In terms of organized crime, Belgium generally scores better across various indices, with lower scores indicating better safety. For example, Belgium's mafia group index is 3.0 compared to Barbados's 5.0. Additionally, the female murder rate in Barbados (4.1) is notably higher than in Belgium (0.2). While Barbados is a popular tourist destination, travelers should remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings, as crime rates are higher than in Belgium.
