Azerbaijan presents a compelling travel option for some of Qatar's 3 million residents, showcasing a blend of cultural heritage and diverse landscapes. While tourism numbers have varied recently, the country's strategic significance in the tourism sector is on the rise, making it an appealing destination for visitors from Qatar.
Azerbaijan is generally considered safe for tourists, but it ranks lower in safety compared to Qatar. According to the Global Peace Index, Azerbaijan is ranked 104th out of 160 countries, while Qatar is 29th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Azerbaijan is 1.9 per 100,000 people, compared to Qatar's very low rate of 0.3. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Azerbaijan has higher scores in various crime categories compared to Qatar, suggesting a greater presence of organized crime. While tourists from Qatar can visit Azerbaijan without significant concerns, it is advisable to remain vigilant and informed about local conditions, as the overall safety environment is not as favorable as in Qatar.
